Prince Harry has suffered a fresh setback after the government of Chad announced it was cutting ties with African Parks, a conservation charity closely linked to the Duke of Sussex.

In a statement, Chad’s Minister of Environment Hassan Bakhit Djamous accused the non-profit of showing a “recurring indelicate and disrespectful attitude toward the government.”

He also cited rising poaching incidents and a lack of investment at the reserves managed by the organization as reasons behind the decision.

The move officially ends a 15-year partnership between Chad and African Parks, a blow to Harry, who previously served as the charity’s president and now sits on its board of directors.

In response, African Parks said it was “in talks to explore the best way forward to support the continued protection of these landscapes that are critical to conservation.”

Founded in 2000, African Parks has managed wildlife reserves across Africa, including the Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve and the Greater Zakouma Ecosystem, aiming to reduce poaching and rebuild elephant populations.

However, the charity has faced growing scrutiny.

Earlier this year, it admitted that guards at one of its parks were involved in human rights violations against Indigenous people displaced from the area.
