Sean “Diddy” Combs and his legal team had been pushing for either a new trial or acquittal on the charges he has been convicted of, but it seems like the rap mogul will be let off the hook that easy.
The judge responsible for the sentencing over his two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution charges, Arun Subramanian, has put out his ruling over the matter.
It appears to foreshadow that the Mo Money Mo Problems singer’s sentencing might be leaning towards the maximum number of years he can serve.
In a 16-page order the U.S. District Judge writes,” “That evidence consisted of testimony from Ventura and Jane, testimony from the escorts involved, and evidence from text messages and emails. The government proved its case many times over,” as per Deadline.
The 46-year-old adds that there was no basis for spillover prejudice like Diddy's team argued, so the fairness of the trial remains intact since the jury was evidently unbiased.
“It weighs heavily that the jury declined to convict him on any of the counts related to that conduct. Had the prejudice indeed been so great, one would expect a jury to convict on the most relevant counts before it could spill over and infect the others,” judge Arun writes.
The New York judge also plainly ruled that a new trial is not warranted, despite Diddy’s team’s extensive attempts to prove its viability.
Diddy’s sentencing date is October 3rd and he could face a maximum of twenty years and a minimum of months on the charges he has been found guilty for.
