Adam Sandler’s new role in Jay Kelly as Ron has made netizens predict the first-ever Oscar nomination for him, but does Adam think it, too?
On Monday, September 29, the actor responded to the Oscar buzz around his performance in Jay Kelly while speaking to PEOPLE magazine at the movie’s New York City premiere.
"Well, that's real cool and real nice of everybody to say, and I'm just happy I got to be in it," Adam said. "My man Noah Baumbach wrote it, kind of put it all together, got the performances he wanted out of everybody, and I'm proud to be in it."
Jay Kelly marks the first film from Marriage Story director Noah Baumbach, 56, since 2022’s White Noise. The dramedy stars George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, and Billy Crudup.
“Everybody knows Jay Kelly, but Jay Kelly doesn’t know himself,” reads the tagline, revealed by Netflix in May alongside a release date and first-look image of Clooney, 64, in the lead role.
According to the synopsis, the film follows celebrated movie star Jay Kelly (Clooney) and his loyal manager Ron (Sandler) as they embark on a whirlwind, unexpectedly profound journey across Europe. Along the way, both men must reckon with their choices, their relationships, and the legacies they’ll leave behind.
The film earned a 10-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival on Aug. 28, per Deadline.
