Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner have filed a defamation lawsuit against R&B singer Ray J, accusing him of disseminating false claims that the duo is under federal criminal investigation.
Filed on Wednesday, Oct. 1, the lawsuit states Ray J has sought to exploit the Kardashians’ fame since a “fleeting relationship” with Kim that ended two decades ago.
The filing cites comments Ray J made during a May TMZ special, where he suggested racketeering charges against the Kardashians would be “appropriate.”
He repeated the allegations during a Sept. 24 livestream, stating, “The federal RICO I’m about to drop on Kris and Kim is about to be crazy,” and “the feds is coming.”
“Ray J’s public statements are blatantly false,” the lawsuit states. “No such federal investigation exists… Ray J’s conduct represents an egregious abuse of social media and public platforms to weaponize lies about nonexistent criminal investigations while fully aware that such allegations, even when baseless, carry the power to damage Plaintiffs’ livelihoods and hard-earned reputations.”
The complaint argues Ray J’s remarks went beyond hostile opinions and were framed as factual assertions, including: “The feds is coming, there’s nothing I can do about it,” and, “It’s worse than Diddy,” referencing Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal charges.
According to the lawsuit, his statements fueled speculation and placed Kardashian and Jenner “at the center of a media storm” over alleged criminal activity.
