Matthew Lillard wishes to reunite with DC Studios co-head James Gunn, this time for a brand-new project.
The actor, recently cast in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, expressed interest in collaborating with his “dear friend,” hoping to earn recognition as both an MCU and DCU star by appearing in one of Gunn’s projects.
Lillard and Gunn previously worked together on Scooby-Doo (2002) and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004), with Lillard playing Mystery Inc. favourite Shaggy while Gunn penned the scripts.
Reflecting on their bond, Lillard described the Superman director as “one of my dear friends,” adding: “I keep waiting for that invitation. I don’t know if it’s lost in the mail.”
Earlier this year, the actor made headlines when he joined the cast of Daredevil: Born Again’s sophomore season, although his role has not yet been disclosed.
During his appearance at LACC, Lillard clarified he would not be donning spandex. “I do not wear any lycra, I know you’re sad,” he joked to fans.
Meanwhile, Gunn previously confirmed in 2023 that he is open to casting actors he has worked with before in the DCU.
“We have hundreds of roles to cast. As I’ve always done, some will be brand new faces, some will be actors I’ve worked with before, and some will be actors you know who I’ve never worked with,” Gunn wrote on X. “What matters most is the actor fits the role and they’re easy to work with.”
