James Gunn opens up about the shocking twist in ‘Peacemaker’ season 2

James Gunn recently explained his reasoning behind hiding a twist in plain sight in Peacemaker season 2.

In conversation with Variety, the 59-year-old director opened up about the shocking revelations in the sixth episode, which dropped on September 25.

The twist, which only some saw coming, was shot during the 2024 presidential election in the United States.

When asked how he did that, James explained, “He’s [Peacemaker] able to go to this other planet and not notice at all that, whereas Harcourt, who’s more attentive to details, and probably more sensitive to that sort of thing anyway, notices the minute she’s out in public.”

The DC co-CEO refers to the part where the alternate Earth-X has an all-white population, leading to the conclusion that it’s the world where Nazi Germany won World War II.

James added that there are some plot points influenced by the real world: “The show is about the 11th Street Kids and their relationships with each other.”

The filmmaker hilariously admitted that David Corenswet, who plays Superman, was upset about the fact that Lex Luthor had a cameo in the episode and not him. He said, “I needed Lex in the show to serve a specific purpose.”

Notably, the show is led by John Cena, Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, and Jennifer Holland, among others.

For the unversed, Peacemaker season 2 will have eight episodes, with the show concluding on October 9, 2025. Fans are speculating that the finale will set up the DC universe.
