The Social Network is officially getting a sequel, with the film’s newly announced title and cast offering the first glimpse of what’s coming.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel titled The Social Reckoning will be directed by the renowned Aaron Sorkin, who previously won an Oscar for the script of the first film.

According to Sony, the buzzing cast lined up for the highly anticipated second part includes Jeremy Strong, Jeremy Allen White, Mikey Madison and Bill Burr, among others.

The Social Reckoning is set 17 years after the events of the first movie, with Jeremy replacing Jesse Eisenberg as the CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg.

As per the above-mentioned outlet, the story will revolve around a young Facebook engineer, Frances Haugen (Mikey) who teams up with a Wall Street journalist, Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen) to reveal the social network’s biggest secrets.

The plot is based on The Facebook Files, a 2021 series of articles from The Wall Street Journal, which revealed how the company was aware of its platform’s harmful effects on spreading misinformation and teens.

Notably, The Social Network came out in 2010 to much critical acclaim, directed by David Fincher, the film was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won three.

The biographical drama depicted the birth of Facebook by a young Mark Zuckerberg as he gets sued by his friend and co-founder, Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield) and Wincklewoss twins.

Though it hasn’t been revealed when the production will begin, but it is speculated to start sometime in October given that the release date for the sequel is October 9, 2026.

The Social Network won Best Screenplay, which was given to Aaron Sorkin, Best Original Score, collected by Trent Raznor and Atticus Ross and Best Film Editing, awarded to Angus Wall and Kirk Baxtor.
