Ryan Reynolds recalls insulting Blake Lively over a-lister’s call

Ryan Reynolds shared a funny but tense moment with wife Blake Lively over a call from Bill Murray that was difficult for him to take.

On September 25, during the nationwide tour for the upcoming documentary John Candy: I Like Me, Reynolds stopped at the State Theatre New Jersey in New Brunswick.

While addressing the audience, the Deadpool actor revealed the difficulty he faced in getting Bill Murray to take part in the Colin Hanks-directed documentary, which created tension in his marriage.

Ryan, the producer of the film, quipped that there could’ve been an entire separate documentary about simply trying to get in touch with Murray.

He eventually got the number through “a friend of a friend of a friend” and joked that the 75-year-old’s voicemail sounded like a “Greek shipping company.”

“Hey Bill, Ryan Reynolds here,” he told the audience about the call. “I'm making a documentary about John Candy. I'm just hoping I could pick your brain. I'll come to you; I'll do whatever it takes.”

The Marvel star admitted he left about “40 messages.”

Continuing the story, Ryan explained, “I was on my way to a gala — I hardly ever go to those fancy tuxedo events. I was there with my wife, and just as we were about to walk in, my phone buzzed. I looked down and it said Bill Murray. I just shouted, ‘Bill Murray!’”

Dropping his voice as if re-enacting the moment with Blake, he added, “She said, ‘We have to go in!’”

“I was like, ‘F**k you!’” he revealed, recalling the insult he jokingly hurled at his wife.
