The cast of Alice in Borderland sat down for an interview where they discussed the overarching themes in season 3.

Stars from the previous season, Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya made a return to the series, along with writer/director Shinsuke Sato.

Other cast members include Hayato Isomura, Ayaka Miyoshi, Katsuya Maiguma, Koji Ohkura, Risa Sudou, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi, Tina Tamashiro, Kotaro Daigo, Hyunri, Sakura Kiryu, Yugo Mikawa, Joey Iwanaga, Akana Ikeda and Kento Kaku.

Yamazaki commented on the virality of the show, telling The Hollywood Reporter, “I was surprised at the beginning, but, I’m of course elated that the global fans have embraced this show. It’s also true that even from season one, we had this resolve to create something for the global audience. So I’m so happy that [this passion] has continued up to season three.”

On how they dealt with the serious trauma dealt to the characters through the show, he remarked, “[The material] takes a toll on you and there were lots of challenges, but we just did our best to overcome all of that, which led to us having, and me particularly, having a sense of confidence with the work being able to move global audiences. And being able to continue up to season three makes me feel vindicated.”

Tsychiya chimed in, “There was the challenge or difficulty of what you just mentioned. Those heavier themes, [well], when you put yourself in a very dark place for a long time, in a very Stoic way, it can affect your physical health as well. So what we actively did on set was to just laugh, there was a lot of laughter on set"

She added that interacting with the crew and her cast mates helped lighten the tone, and provided a sense of love.

Alice in Borderland is now available to stream on Netflix through season one to three.
