Disney announced a rise in the subscription fees right after Jimmy Kimmel’s return to his late-night show.

On September 24, the media mogul released a statement that it would hike the fees for a third time in three years on its streaming platforms of Hulu and Disney+.

According to Screen Daily, the prices on Disney+ for the ad-free tier were raised by $3 to $18.11, while the tier with ads was raised by $2 to $11.99.

Similarly, subscription fees for Hulu went up equally at the same price, sparking backlash from netizens.

Notably, the news comes just a day after the late-night show was brought back after a six-day suspension, with Kimmel showing remorse about his comments on Charlie Kirk’s death.

Netizens took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their disappointment with the entertainment company’s decision.

One viewer wrote, “So in response to a boycott, they’re raising their prices?” Another follower penned, “They’re trying so hard to compensate for the $4 billion they lost LMAO.”

For the unversed, Disney faced criticism for ‘censoring’ the comedian as major Hollywood stars boycotted it by cancelling their subscriptions. This resulted in the empire losing around $3.8 billion in market value.

As of now, a representative of Disney has not yet commented on the reason for the hiked prices.

How many subscribers does Disney+ have globally?

As of 2025, Disney+ has around 128 million subscribers globally, which was an increase of 1.8 million from the previous quarter.
