Prince Harry once delivered a no-nonsense reply when pressed on why he and Meghan Markle continue to use their royal titles despite stepping back from duties in 2020.
During his 2023 interview with Anderson Cooper while promoting his memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex was asked directly about the couple still being known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
Harry’s blunt six-word response: “And what difference would that make?”
Cooper then questioned why Harry and Meghan had chosen to share private royal conversations publicly.
Harry defended the decision, saying: “Every single time I’ve tried to do it privately there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife. You know, the family motto is ‘never complain, never explain’. But it’s just a motto. And it doesn’t really hold.”
Harry, now 40, remains fifth in line to the throne, while his children Archie, six, and Lilibet, four, are sixth and seventh.
Although he relinquished his military titles after stepping down, he and Meghan have kept their Sussex titles.
