King Charles has made a candid admission about the realities of ageing while speaking to patients during a royal engagement this week.
The 76-year-old monarch visited the newly opened Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Smethwick on Wednesday, where he officially inaugurated the 736-bed facility and spent time chatting with staff and patients.
Among those he spoke with was 85-year-old Jacqueline Page, who joked that she was “wearing out.”
King Charles sympathized, replying: “I know. This is the terrible thing, as I’m discovering already, the bits don’t work so well after you get past 70, do they?”
The King has previously used humor to address ageing.
During VJ Day commemorations in August, he joked with veterans that body parts “fall off” after reaching 70.
Despite acknowledging the challenges of getting older, Charles continues to remain active in his royal duties.
He is still undergoing cancer treatment following his diagnosis last year but reassured a patient yesterday that he was “not too bad.”
