Princess Diana’s former hairstylist has spoken out in defence of Kate Middleton after her new blonde look was met with harsh criticism online.
Sam McKnight, who styled Diana’s hair from 1990 until her death in 1997, slammed the “nasty” and “evil” remarks aimed at the Princess of Wales, 43.
Kate stepped out with Prince William at the Natural History Museum on Thursday, revealing her brighter blonde locks for the second time.
While some fans praised the new style, others were critical, prompting McKnight, 70, to share an emotional Instagram post.
“I am shocked, horrified, dismayed and disgusted by all the nasty comments about the Princess of Wales today,” he wrote.
“A woman’s hair is very personal to her, it’s armour, defence, confidence and so much more.”
McKnight added: “I cannot believe how evil and lacking in any kind of empathy are the comments… Cancer affects individuals differently, but is life-changing for everyone. So F** LEAVE HER ALONE. SHAME ON YOU.”
McKnight, who had a close bond with Diana and once called her “so funny,” said Kate has “bravely” represented the country despite the personal challenges she has faced.
