Actress Sophie Turner is set to take on the role of Lara Croft in the upcoming Prime Video series based on the game.
The showrunner is none other than the mind behind Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge. This is her first major project coming out of her deal with Amazon from 2019.
Previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, Turner claimed she is "thrilled beyond measure" to be cast in the role, "She's such an iconic character, who means so much to so many - and I am giving everything I've got."
Having grown up under the eye of the camera through her childhood role in Game of Thrones that ended a few years earlier, she continued, "They're massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can't wait for you all to see what we have cooking."
Waller-Bridge also commented on the project, saying, "It's not very often you get to make a show of this scale with a character you grew up loving. Everyone on board is wildly passionate about Lara and are all as outrageous, brave, and hilarious as she is. Get your artifacts out... Croft is coming."
Notably, neither of the previous adaptations have been a commercial success, largely disliked by audiences and critics both.
