Jay-Z is reminding people of his iconic track that was recently sampled by fellow rapper Cardi B as one of the songs in her upcoming album, Am I The Drama?
The 25-time Grammy winner took to his official YouTube channel for the first time in two years to re-publish the video for his song Imaginary Players, which was first put out more than two decades ago.
Although there appears to be no bad blood between the two rappers, since the record producer had approved the use of his song’s sample for Imaginary Playerz, which came out on August 15, the hip-hop legend seems to want to remind listeners of the original.
Meanwhile, Jay-Z has also been dropping hints that suggest he might be gearing up to release new music, which could be a possible explanation for the unexpected move since he himself hasn’t offered an explanation.
Under the comments of the repost, fans wondered what prompted the move, with one writing, “It's very clever to release the video but also very nevessary [sic] because new generations should know that Jay was impressive and legend back then...”
“Him uploading this after the release of Cardi B’s version that he cleared is so iconic,” added another user with fire emojis while a third netizen echoed, “Knew Jay-Z cleared the Cardi B version so people could revisit this classic. He ain't slick.”
Cardi B’s highly anticipated album, Am I The Drama? is set for release on September 19.
