The Weeknd, notable persona of Abel Tesfaye which is about to retire after tour, dominated charts with his famous track.

Released in 2019, Blinding Lights ranked first on Hot 100 chart for weeks after its debut.

After nearly five years, it made history by becoming the most streamed track on Spotify with 5 billion plays.

The news, announced by the streaming platform, was re-shared by the 35-year-old on his Instagram story.

Recently, the song topped the Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop songs of the 21st century chart, which is for music released from 2000 till the end of 2024.

After the melody reached four billion streams in 2024, Abel expressed his gratitude to the people who "feel a way that they keep going back to listen.”

While the singer is peaking his career, Abel is looking forward to end the journey of his public persona after wrapping the current After Hours Til Dawn tour.

The Weeknd is touring in support of his recently released album Hurry Up Tomorrow.

Why is The Weeknd retiring?

Despite gaining immense popularity through ‘The Weeknd,’ the the Save Your Tears crooner took this decision in order to “figure out my life.”

In a candid interview, the singer revealed he “had a kind of a mental breakdown,” which is what his latest record was based on.

However, the record producer himself will come up with projects that might be unique in essence and different from his previous works.
