Famous filmmaker Chris Columbus sat down for an interview where he admitted to being fired from the 2005 Fantastic Four film.

Appearing on the Fade to Black podcast, he explained that he had written the script in 1995 that eventually went on to become the movie.

Even though he had been the one who had come up with the script, the director noted that there had been several other writers.

When he met the director, he suggested that “some of this conceptual art should feel more like Jack Kirby, who was the artist of the Fantastic Four [comics], and feel more like the Silver Age of Marvel.”

Voicing his opinions ultimately led to his firing, as the head of 20th Century Fox allegedly called him and said, “You’re fired. You had too much of an opinion.”

Although he was credited as an executive producer in the end, Columbus insists he “had nothing to do with it.”

The situation led to him turning away from the superhero genre entirely, "I think getting fired on the Fantastic Four films probably soured me a little bit.”

However, he sees a silver lining in the situation, “I realized I don’t have a desire to make those movies anymore because people are doing them better than I could ever imagine at this point in my career.”
