James Gunn, best known for directing the Guardians of the Galaxy films for Marvel Studios, has shared a surprising update for DC fans.
The 59-year-old filmmaker revealed that Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller is set to return, though it may take longer than anticipated.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Peacemaker Season 2 premiere, he disclosed that he and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran are still finalising plans for the long-awaited Waller spin-off.
“We're working on it, so we'll see what happens,” Gunn said.
“Some things have moved faster than others. Waller's not been the fastest. But I can’t wait to see Viola put on their Waller pants again.”
Gunn explained why Peacemaker sequel premiered before the Waller series, citing “shuffling” for “a variety of reasons” in a now-deleted X post.
“Unlike most studios, we’ll never start production on a project if the script isn’t finished. Quality is the utmost priority,” he added.
Safran admitted earlier this year that the Amanda Waller project has faced hurdles.
Waller has been a bumpy road,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
