‘Saturday Night Live’ next season to be unrecognisable: Here’s why

Saturday Night Live’s next, 51st season will be missing some well-loved comedians, as cast members exit one by one, along with a writer also confirming departure.

The first to announce his leave from the Lorne Michaels created TV show was Devon Walker, followed by Emil Wakim two days later, who candidly took to his social media to share how it felt to be let go after one season.

Wakim wrote on Instagram, “it was a gut punch of a call to get” but that he was grateful to have experienced being a cast member, adding that it was the most rewarding time of life.

A day after his announcement, on August 28, both Michael Longfellow and Heidi Gardner also noted that they would not be returning to the series any longer.

Gardner is the longest-running member of the four, as she had been a part of the NBC show since 2017, but has yet to reflect on her exit.

Alongside the members, writer Celeste Yim has also announced the departure on social media, after five years of contributions.

Notably, rumours are also circulating around Weekend Update hosts Michael Che and Colin Jost, that they might also leave SNL, which would be a crushing blow since the iconic duo has cemented an irreplaceable place in fans of the show’s hearts.

When will SNL’s 51st season air?

SNL returns for its 51st season on Oct. 4, meanwhile departures and new hires will continue to be made public.
