Emma Stone reveals altering effects on body from film's costume

Emma Stone discussed the severe effects a film costume had on her body for a month.

In conversation with Vogue, the 36-year-old actress revealed her ‘body shape’ remained ‘altered’ for an entire month.

She referred to the 2018 film, The Favourite, in which she portrayed the role of Abigail, a poor girl who arrives at Queen Anne’s court and rises to power with her schemes.

In order to fully immerse in the character, Emma wore a corset, which pushed her physical limits.

She explained, “It pulls you in. I have a very big rib cage, so it’s like an intense thing to manoeuvre. My body was definitely not built for a corset.”

Emma added that it was her first time wearing a corset and said, “I can confirm it does shift your organs after a while.”

Later in the interview, despite facing difficulty in breathing, she praised the costume designer, Sandy Powell, and called her a ‘genius’ and a ‘legend.’

Notably, in 2018, on the Graham Norton Show, the Oscar winner spoke in admiration about the women who constantly had to wear the corset during the 18th century.

She admitted, “Women existed in that for such a long time, which does give you a lot of sympathy for that time period and what [they] were going through.”

For the unversed, Emma Stone will play Michelle in the upcoming absurdist science fiction film, Bugonia. The movie will be released on October 31, 2025, in cinemas.
