Meghan Markle has finally lifted the lid on the intimate way she and Prince Harry marked their first wedding anniversary, and it wasn’t what fans expected.
In the second season of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex reminisced with three-Michelin-starred chef Clare Smyth, who not only catered the couple’s 2018 royal wedding but also played a starring role in their one-year anniversary celebration.
“I still remember doing your anniversary. We surprised you,” Smyth recalled, describing how her team prepared a special meal inside a “beautiful little old chapel.”
Meghan laughed as she remembered the historic setting, saying, “Everything around you is historical.”
Smyth added her team had to carefully tiptoe around creaky floorboards and antiques, joking that they moved “like ninjas.”
The chef also revealed that Meghan and Harry once threw her an unusual challenge: creating late-night bites for their wedding menu.
The request led to a signature fried chicken dish that remains an off-menu item at Smyth’s acclaimed London restaurant, Core.
“Oh my gosh, I love that our off-menu item is fried chicken,” Meghan exclaimed.
Until now, details of the couple’s first anniversary had been kept private.
At the time, it was only reported that they enjoyed a quiet day with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, and newborn Archie.
