A time capsule buried by Princess Diana more than three decades ago has finally been unearthed, revealing a treasure trove of nostalgic 90s relics.

The late Princess of Wales sealed the wooden box in March 1991 during the foundation stone ceremony for Great Ormond Street Hospital’s Variety Club Building.

Although intended to remain sealed for “hundreds of years,” it was recently rediscovered during construction work for a new children’s cancer centre.

Among the items inside were Kylie Minogue’s Rhythm of Love album on CD, a British passport, a Times newspaper from the day of burial, a snowflake hologram, recycled paper, and a collection of British coins.

The capsule also included five tree seeds, all chosen by two children, David Watson, then 11, and Sylvia Foulkes, then nine, who won a Blue Peter competition to represent 1990s life alongside Diana.

Despite some wear and tear, archivists confirmed the items were largely intact.

Diana, who became president of Great Ormond Street Hospital in 1989, was deeply committed to children’s healthcare and made several visits before her tragic death in 1997.

The ceremony mirrored a similar event in 1872 when Princess Alexandra buried a time capsule at the hospital, though that one has never been found.
