Doja Cat has gotten candid about the motivation behind her fifth studio album Vie, and it is certainly far from traditional.

The singer, whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, noted that the album came to be after her twice-a-week therapy sessions.

In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, the Say So hitmaker stated, “I think therapy has been my main [source]. This album really grew from my sessions in therapy and being so gung-ho on being there twice a week and doing it and learning about the human experience and how our brains function subconsciously and consciously.”

The Woman crooner, often dubbed the ‘Queen of Pop-Rap’ also noted that Vie would contain themes of love, lust and relationship chaos.

“It’s truly, for lack of a better word, fun. And I think that’s what people need right now is to remember that life can be fun and that it’s not always so serious all the time,” Doja remarked.

The Grammy winner disclosed that she feels like she has learned a lot in therapy which she has tried to channel into the upcoming album.

Notably, the first single off of Vie, Jealous Type had a an 80’s inspired, disco-pop vibe to it, which could indicate the sound of the rest of the album.

When will Vie drop?

Doja’s highly anticipated album is expected to drop on September 26, 2025.
