Meryl Streep and Anya Taylor-Joy are in talks to portray the iconic singer, Joni Mitchell, in her upcoming untitled biopic.
The project will be directed by Cameron Crowe, who admitted that the plotline will follow an unconventional story structure.
Though the news hasn’t been confirmed yet, it excited the netizens, who are certain the actresses will do justice to the legendary singer.
One fan wrote, “Meryl’s gonna collect another Oscar while Anya steals every scene, calling it now.” Another follower commented, “That’s gonna be something special.”
Notably, the film will focus on Joni Mitchell’s life from her early folk music days to her making a cultural impact. It will be a dual perspective journey with Anya playing the younger version while Meryl will portray the older Joni.
For the unversed, the 81-year-old musician has been a prominent figure in folk music and beyond. Joni’s music career took off in the 1960s and gained recognition for her unique vocal style.
The Cactus Tree hitmaker came out of retirement in 2022 with a surprise appearance at Newport Folk Festival in her hometown.
Fans are speculating she might make a small cameo in her upcoming biopic; they are hoping to see her sing again.
On the other hand, Meryl is currently filming the highly anticipated Devil Wears Prada 2 alongside Anne Hathaway, while Anya recently starred in The Gorge with Miles Teller.
As of now, neither actress has confirmed nor denied the rumours.
