Lupita Nyong’o recently broke her silence on her casting backlash as Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

The Academy Award winner shared her honest views, saying, “This is a mythological story,” in her latest interview with Elle magazine.

Lupita mentioned that she’s “very supportive” of Christopher’s intention and the “version of this story”.

The 12 Years A Slave actress pointed out that their “cast is representative of the world”.

“I'm not spending my time thinking of a defense. The criticism will exist whether I engage with it or not,” responded the 43-year-old.

Earlier, Tesla co-founder Elon Musk gave reaction after Lupita was cast in the upcoming movie.

He was against her casting and even claimed on social media that the legendary director did it because he “wants the awards” but he had “lost his integrity”.

Elsewhere in the interview, the Black Panther actress reflected on playing the character in the tale adapted from Homer's ancient Greek poem.

“You can't perform beauty. I want to know who a character is,” remarked Lupita.

The 355 star noted that this character is way beyond beauty, which is why, it’s important to have a grip on its text which had been studied and interpreted and derived from.

“The research could be endless. The good thing about working with a writer like Chris is that it's on the page. The investigation starts with the pages you're given. That's what I based it on,” added Lupita.

Meanwhile, The Odyssey is expected to release in theatres on July 17.
