Quinta Brunson has announced a new project around the beloved animated character Betty Boop, and the actress will be involved in a major way.
The comedian has issued a statement about the matter and explained why she decided to undertake the story.
“Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche. She has had a quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century,” Brunson wrote.
She added, “After Erin and I met with Mark and learned more about his grandfather’s creation of Betty, I realized there was a much deeper story to tell. One that could be explored in a way that feels refreshing, subversive, and timeless, much like Betty herself.”
The Emmy winner’s company Fifth Chance Productions partnered with Mark Fleischer, grandson of Betty Boop creator Max Fleischer in the developing project which is being overseen by the former’s company’s head of creative affairs, Erin Wehrenberg.
As per Variety, the upcoming film is set to trace the evolution and origin of Betty Boop through the eyes of her creator Max Fleischer, depicting the relationship between the art and the artist and the hardships that come along with it.
Internet users took to social media platforms such as X to sound their approval about the news, with comments like, “Perfect casting” and “Quinta Brunson *is* Betty Boop. I didn't know I needed this, but now my life is incomplete without it.”
