Stephen Colbert’s old friend Jon Stewart has joined him for one of the final episodes of his talk show and latter is dishing some useful advice.

The progressive political commentator also showered his former Daily Show correspondent with gifts before the talk show host’s show airs its final episode on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

“One of us has not aged as well as the other,” the 63-year-old said to the 62-year-old and referring to himself, adding, “this looks like a double-blind study where they gave one of these people is getting age-defying peptides and the other one is getting a placebo.”

The former The Jon Stewart Show host recalled the short run time of his show and dished the advice he received from David Letterman at the end of it.

“He said, ‘Don’t confuse cancellation with failure.’ I thought that was profound,” Jon told Stephen before the punchline, “but then he said, ‘But in this case it is also a failure.’”

The father-of-two also came to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert bearing gifts, and before presenting them he compared them to the ones given by previous guests.

Jon dished that he was not talented enough to write Colbert a poem or sing him a song and wanted to give the latter something tangible, after which stage techs brought out two luxury recliners.

Notably, the second tribute gift was a performance from the Grammy-winning R&B singer Andra Day of her 2015 hit Rise Up.
