Billy Joel’s representative has issued a statement about a biopic in the works by the name of Billy and Me, revealing how it is unsupported by the musician.
The Billy Joel: And So It Goes star has been the focus of films in the past, but it seems that the upcoming one does not have his blessing.
In a recent address, the Piano Man singer’s spokesperson declared “since 2021, the parties involved have been officially notified that they do not possess Billy Joel's life rights and will not be able to secure the music rights required for this project."
They added that the legendary musician “has not authorized or supported this project in any capacity, and any attempt to move forward without it would be both legally and professionally misguided.”
Meanwhile the movie is set to be helmed by John Ottman, the editor for the 2018 Bohemian Rhapsody and the recent hit Michael.
Billy and Me is set to give a glimpse into Billy’s origin story through the lens of his first manager Irwin Manzur, who worked with the Uptown Girl singer until he got signed by Columbia Records in 1972.
