Jim Hanks has shed light on his surprising involvement in the Toy Story franchise, admitting he helped support his brother Tom Hanks’ legendary role as Sheriff Woody on certain projects.

Speaking on the Love It Film podcast, the 64-year-old explained that his work on the franchise came through additional voice recordings tied to various spin-off projects rather than the main feature films themselves.

He noted that his contributions were mainly used for merchandise, video games, and short form content connected to the Toy Story universe, where consistency in Woody’s voice was still required outside of Tom’s core performances.

He stated, “The first thing I ever did was one of the pull-string toys from the first movie where he's saying 'You're my favorite deputy' and 'There's a snake in my boot' and stuff like that.”

He continued, “They had processed the voice so much that they needed a cleaner [version] so I come in and do it.”

Additionally, he called it a meaningful part of his career, saying it kept him connected to a widely recognized character while respecting Tom Hanks’ original portrayal.

Moreover, he mentioned to the host that he aimed to stay “as true to the character as possible.”

It is worth noting, the Toy Story (1995), from Pixar and Walt Disney Pictures, featured Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.
