Quentin Tarantino reportedly left Brad Pitt stunned on the set of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood after a behind-the-scenes moment went badly wrong, and the director didn’t hold back.
According to veteran actor Bruce Dern, who played blind ranch owner George Spahn in the 2019 hit, Pitt accidentally overstepped during filming when he cut the camera mid-scene, thinking it was a natural break.
But the 63-year-old filmmaker was anything but relaxed about it.
Dern recalled the moment in an interview with PEOPLE, describing how the director’s mood shifted instantly.
“The look on Quentin’s face was insanely grave,” he said.
Tarantino then turned to Fight Club star and demanded, “Brad, what did you just do?”
When the 62-year-old actor explained he had stopped the camera, Tarantino allegedly fired back with a warning that sent a clear message to the set.
“Never again in your life will you ever cut a camera or you’ll be dead in this business. That’s my domain. Don’t stop behaviour.”
The scene was quickly reset and reshot, but tensions lingered.
Pitt, who played stuntman Cliff Booth alongside Leonardo DiCaprio’s Rick Dalton, reportedly questioned changes being made on the spot, pointing out that certain lines weren’t in the original script.
Despite the friction, Dern ended up improvising one of the film’s more memorable lines, adding his own offbeat touch to the moment.
The behind-the-scenes drama comes as talk continues around Pitt reprising his role in a new Netflix spin-off, which will see David Fincher take the director’s chair.
Tarantino has written the script but won’t direct, with the project set for a limited IMAX release.
Even so, he has praised Fincher’s involvement, calling him one of the “two best directors” and saying his adaptation shows serious respect for the material.
