The Boys star Antony Starr paid a farewell tribute to his character Homelander as the long-running Amazon series concluded with its fifth and final season.
In a lengthy Instagram caption on Wednesday, Aug. 13, the actor called the experience “the highlight of my career.”
Starr included a BTS photo in his superhero costume and wrote that he had “been waiting a little to let things settle and process the end of this show” before posting.
“Difficult (for me) to put into words what an incredible ride this has been. How much life and growth has occurred. How amazing the team is. It’s truly been the highlight of my career,” Starr added.
The Emmy-nominated star said that when he began the series, he had no idea what lay ahead.
“This juggernaut left the station and never stopped,” Starr wrote. “Except for that Covid moment. Oh, and the strikes. That was a thing too. But apart from those two times, it never stopped, boldly making its mark on the television landscape. There’s nothing else like it. It lives in its own lane.”
With production on the final season wrapped, Starr thanked the incredible cast, crew, and teams at Amazon and Sony for making the show possible. Playing Homelander gave him unexpected creative freedom and growth.
Extending his thanks to showrunner Eric Kripke, Starr wrote, “We created a monster, sir. And I will miss him, and you. ‘Til we roll out the last season, when I’ll see you. But this creative chapter is closed, and I’ll miss it, brother.”
Starr concluded the heartfelt farewell note by extending his gratitude and respect to his fans.
