Hamilton writer Lin-Manuel Miranda recently dropped surprise news in celebration of the musical’s 10th anniversary.

In conversation with The Tonight Show host, Jimmy Fallon, Miranda declared to the audience, “I have an announcement! Sept. 5, you will be able to see ‘Hamilton’ in movie theatres nationwide and in Puerto Rico.”

The actor added that the cast and crew filmed the original musical in 2016 but couldn’t release it in cinemas because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The producers had to opt for streaming services so it could be available to everyone.

Netizens took to social media to express their excitement. One fan wrote, “IM SEATED!” Another follower penned, “Would love to see it in the theatre.”

Notably, Hamilton is a musical written for theatre performance by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who had been working on the project for a decade.

It follows the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of America, as he arrives in New York as a young orphan and goes on to make a name for himself in the history books.

The star-studded cast includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, Anthony Ramos, Jonathan Groff, Phillipa Soo, and Leslie Odom Jr.

The musical blends different genres like R&B, hip hop, and jazz, including Broadway style. The film version was captured at the first live performance on Broadway, New York.

For the unversed, the autobiographical musical won a Pulitzer Prize for Best Drama and 11 Tony Awards in 2016.
