Meghan Markles tough and depressing year under scrutiny after Netflix exit

As Meghan Markle celebrates her 44th birthday and prepares to unveil the latest product from her lifestyle brand As Ever, a royal commentator has cast a bleak light on the Duchess of Sussex’s year so far branding it "depressing."

Despite several high-profile launches in 2025, royal biographer Hugo Vickers argues the year has fallen flat for the Duchess.

“She’s started off a lot of things, and none of them have come to any great fruition,” Vickers told The Sun

“Full marks to her for reinventing herself and coming up with new ideas, but it’s not working very well.”

While some of Meghan’s products have sold out rapidly, questions have been raised about limited stock levels, with critics speculating whether the scarcity was a strategic marketing move or a lack of readiness to meet demand.

Reviews for her podcast and cooking show have also been mixed.

Though With Love, Meghan was renewed for a second season, its initial run received lackluster engagement, and the couple’s five-year Netflix deal is reportedly ending this fall with no renewal in sight.

Vickers was also critical of the Duchess’s use of her children in branding: “Very soon her children will grow up, and I imagine they will be quite resentful at the way in which they’ve been used. She is using them as part of her marketing campaign.”
