Prince Andrew may face renewed scrutiny following the upcoming release of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, a new biography by author Andrew Lownie.
A serialization in the Daily Mail alleges that Prince Andrew was involved in a physical altercation with his nephew Prince Harry during a family gathering in 2013.
The dispute was reportedly sparked by comments Andrew made behind Harry’s back. The book claims the disagreement escalated into a fight that left Andrew with a bloody nose.
Lownie also alleges that Andrew criticized Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle, calling her an “opportunist” and suggesting their marriage would not last more than a month.
He reportedly told Harry he had made “the biggest mistake” by marrying her.
Prince Harry’s spokesperson has firmly denied the claims.
Legal counsel for the Duke of Sussex has also sent a formal letter to the Daily Mail, describing the article as containing “gross inaccuracies, damaging and defamatory remarks.”
Commenting on the potential fallout from the book, Spectator journalist Alexander Larman wrote that Andrew’s “already tarnished reputation is likely to sink even further into the gutter” if he does not respond publicly to the allegations.
Prince Andrew was later stripped of his royal and military titles and currently resides at Royal Lodge in Windsor, a Crown Estate property he shares with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
