Jimmy Fallon made a small joke in response to calls for Stephen Colbert's termination regarding the cancellation of his Late Show and the future of his program.
Fallon introduced Monday night's Tonight Show by saying, "I am your host." "Well, for tonight at least."
The former SNL star then became serious, discussing the political atmosphere and the state of late night, which some have claimed contributed to CBS's decision to terminate Colbert's show.
"I don't like it." I am not at all pleased with what is happening. Fallon remarked that "everyone [was] talking about" the decision, adding, "These are crazy times."
“And many people are now threatening to boycott the network,” he said, setting up another punchline.
“Yeah - CBS could lose millions of viewers, plus tens of hundreds watching on Paramount+.”
After complimenting Colbert on his contributions to the genre, the NBC personality took a moment to criticise Donald Trump for attending the FIFA Club World Cup in New Jersey with Chelsea FC, the victorious team.
“Stephen has won ten Emmys for his years of incredibly clever and funny television," Fallon remarked. "Big deal, last week I just won a FIFA World Cup trophy," Trump said after hearing it.
As of now, no one has been announced to replace Jimmy Fallon as host of The Tonight Show, and he remains under contract with NBC through 2028
