Marvel's Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch, raised concerns about Hollywood being a wasteful industry, specifically pointing out the issue of food waste.

Recently, on Ruthie’s Table 4 podcast, the actor slammed the industry after experiencing wastefulness firsthand.

He gave examples from his body transformation for the role of Doctor Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, during which he followed a strict diet.

Although Benedict loved the physical transformation, he recalled eating five meals a day to meet his calorie intake goal.

The star also added that he had snacks like boiled eggs, crackers, almonds, and cheese, which he called “horrific.”

“The exercise is great, and the end result is that you feel strong and you feel confident. You hold yourself better. You have a stamina through the exercise and the food that makes you last through the gig. But it is horrific,” he explained. “I don’t like it personally. I think it’s horrific, eating beyond your appetite.”

The Oscar-nominated star added, “Going back to responsibility and resourcefulness and sustainability, it’s just like, what am I doing? I could feed a family with the amount I’m eating.”

However, Benedict noted that it isn’t only food waste that makes it a “grossly wasteful industry”; he also mentioned sets, transport, food, housing, light, and energy, none of which is recycled after a project is completed.

“The amount of wattage you need to create daylight and consistent light in a studio environment, it’s a lot of energy,” he said.
