Malcolm-Jamal Warner tragically lost his life in a drowning accident on a beach in Costa Rica on Monday.

The 54-year-old actor, best known for his role on The Cosby Show, was caught in a powerful current while swimming at Playa Cocles in the Limón province.

Meanwhile, Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) recently released an update on the incident.

According to the OIJ, a 35-year-old man bravely entered the water in an attempt to rescue Warner.

The man, who reportedly had no prior connection to the actor, is now in critical condition.

Emergency services responded to the scene at around 2:10pm on Sunday.

Sources revealed that Warner was pulled from the water but was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later confirmed the cause of death as asphyxiation by submersion.

Moreover, his body will be collected from the Judicial Morgue by a funeral service arranged by his family.

Following the heartbreaking incident, Playa Grande’s volunteer lifeguard group, Caribbean Guard, revealed they were not present at the time due to limited resources.

In a statement, they expressed their condolences and warned that the beach is known for its dangerous currents.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Warner’s death remain ongoing.
