The latest DC movie, Superman, which is expected to be a launchpad for a new universe, features Supergirl’s special cameo at the end, and James Gunn explained its importance.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn spoke out about Supergirl's appearance in Superman.
The DC Studios head says that the main reason for showing Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, is to show that Superman not only risked his life to save his dog, but also because he was petting that dog for someone else.
“The dog's a pain in his ass,” he said about Superman. “He didn't want to take that dog. She's off being irresponsible. He doesn't want to have to watch a dog.”
Gunn said that despite Superman having to save the world every instance, he still pushed his boundaries for that dog.
“To me, that's one of the most touching things in the movie. Earlier, when Lois says, ‘It's just a dog,’ and he says, ‘Yeah, not even a very good one, but it's probably scared,’ it just shows you the depths of his empathy,” the director said.
Gunn found it so touching, and then at the end, people get to find out it’s not even his dog, Kara left it with him.
