Angelina Jolie recently shared the motivation behind working on the upcoming movie, Couture.

The American actress confesses that the Maxine role she’s playing in writer-director Alice Winocour’s new drama, is quite close to home for Angelina.

Set to release in theatres on June 26, the movie revolves around Maxine, a renowned filmmaker, who has been diagnosed with breast cancer while working in Europe.

Interestingly, this movie’s premise reminds Angelina of her late real mother, who died from ovarian and breast cancer back in 2007.

Moreover, the Wanted actress herself had undergone a preventive double mastectomy in 2013 after testing positive for “faulty BRAC1 gene,” which increases chances of developing breast cancer in the future.

Given her situation, the Tomb Raider star speaks to PEOPLE magazine, saying that the movie is a “beautifully written piece about women from different countries”.

Gushing over Alice, Angelina mentions that she’s a “wonderful director and approaches the stories of the women in Couture with sensitivity and hope”.

Angelina Jolie reflects on where she emotionally stands today

Reflecting on her life after mastectomy, the Mr & Mrs Smith actress admits she was not strong enough five years ago to be open and trusting to share and be vulnerable with people about her diagnosis.

The mother-of-six points out that the “movie is not about an end for my character but rather about a renewed desire to live life until your last breath, resonating with me at this time in my life”.

“Things happen in life that take us off the path. We lose ourselves, feeling isolated. I would have given anything to have my mother alive to be there for her grandchildren,” adds the 51-year-old as she hosted an intimate dinner at Eat Offbeat on Monday, June 15 where she also honoured the cancer survivors.
