Pixar’s beloved toys are back and they’re already smashing records before hitting full release, with Toy Story 5 racing towards one of the biggest opening weekends of 2026.

The latest adventure from Disney and Pixar Animation Studios has pulled in around £13 million in preview screenings, industry estimates suggest, putting it firmly on track for a huge North American debut of between £108 million and £130 million.

Globally, the film is expected to soar past £205 million in its opening frame.

This is notably a stunning result that underlines the staying power of Woody and Buzz Lightyear more than 30 years after they first appeared on screen.

In the new film, the toys face their biggest modern challenge yet not a villain, but technology.

A smart tablet named “Lilypad” begins disrupting Andy’s old favourites, forcing Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the gang to fight for relevance in a changing world.

The voice cast sees the return of Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, alongside new additions including Conan O'Brien and Greta Lee.

Early buzz has already seen the film outperform recent Pixar previews, with analysts tipping it to comfortably beat Toy Story 4’s opening weekend and challenge records set by Incredibles 2.

Disney is riding high after a strong year at the box office, but insiders say Toy Story remains its crown jewel franchise.

Elsewhere, Hollywood competition is heating up, with A24’s The Death of Robin Hood starring Hugh Jackman expected to open modestly, alongside Neon’s horror release Leviticus.
