Jim Carrey could be heading back to Whoville, with reports claiming the comedy legend is in talks to reprise his iconic role as the Grinch more than 25 years after the festive favourite first hit cinemas.
The 64-year-old actor famously brought the green, Christmas-hating character to life in 2000’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Now a sequel is reportedly in development at Universal and Imagine Entertainment.
According to reports, director Ron Howard is expected to return to helm the project.
While writers Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel are said to be working on the script.
Fans have long hoped for a follow-up, but Carrey previously admitted there was one major condition if he were ever to don the Grinch’s furry green look again.
Speaking in 2024, the Hollywood star revealed he would only consider returning if modern motion-capture technology replaced the gruelling make-up process that left him spending up to eight hours a day in the chair.
“The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe,” he explained at the time.
“It was an extremely excruciating process.”
The Mask actor has spoken openly about the challenges of filming the original movie, even revealing he nearly quit on the first day.
To help him cope, producers reportedly brought in a former CIA trainer who specialised in helping operatives endure extreme situations.
Despite the behind-the-scenes struggles, the festive blockbuster became a huge box-office success and remains a Christmas classic for generations of fans.
