Zara Tindall reveals £12k beer-fuelled horse purchase that left her 'furious'

Zara Tindall revealed she was “so annoyed” with husband Mike Tindall after he splurged £12,000 on a horse, after having “a few beers” at a Cheltenham sales night.
The down-to-earth royal couple, known for their relatable humour and charm, have previously shared candid insights into their marriage, but this story took royal fans by surprise.
Speaking to The Mirror, Princess Anne’s daughter recounted the spontaneous purchase: “We went to Cheltenham, it was sales night. Horses were coming in and you bid on them. He had a few beers."
"Most people when they buy a horse check out what it has done. It was the last lot of the night and Mikey put his hand up and that was it.”
While Zara was unimpressed at the time, the horse, Monbeg Dude, turned out to be a winner.
She admitted: “Annoyingly, it did not backfire… The horse ended up winning the Welsh Grand National and came third in the Grand National. I was so annoyed.”
Monbeg Dude, owned by Mike and fellow rugby stars James Simpson-Daniel and Nicky Robinson, became one of the leading steeplechasers of its era, winning the Welsh Grand National in 2013 and placing third at Aintree in 2015.
The horse retired in 2016 and now lives at Gatcombe Park, the royal estate Zara shares with Mike - making this boozy purchase one of their luckiest investments.
