A palace insider has spoken out following the surprise secret meeting between Prince Harry and King Charles’s top aides, and their four-word comment suggests optimism.
The insider told People magazine simply: “It’s a positive step.”
They added: “It is always better to be talking,” signalling cautious hope that reconciliation may finally be on the horizon.
The rare face-to-face took place on July 9 at London’s exclusive Royal Over-Seas League club, near King Charles’s Clarence House residence.
Prince Harry’s chief of staff and communications director, Meredith Maines, and his UK spokesperson Liam Maguire, were photographed meeting Tobyn Andreae, the King’s communications secretary.
While sources said there was no “formal agenda,” both sides reportedly had key issues to discuss.
The meeting was described as an informal conversation, but notable as the first in-person dialogue in years between the two camps, suggesting that long-frozen lines of communication are beginning to thaw.
Harry, 40, has publicly expressed his desire to mend ties, telling BBC America earlier this year: “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
The meeting comes after Harry’s high-profile legal battle over security in the UK and amid ongoing tensions fuelled by interviews, his Netflix series Harry & Meghan, and his 2023 memoir Spare.
