The upcoming DC film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow made a brief cameo appearance in Superman, which premiered on July 11 — but let’s break down everything we know about Supergirl so far.

The cameo features Milly Alcock’s character, Supergirl, appearing at the Fortress of Solitude, clearly hungover, as she retrieves her dog, Krypto, who had been under Superman’s care during her galactic voyage.

Back in June, DC Studios CEO James Gunn revealed that both Superman and Supergirl had very different childhoods.

“[Superman] had parents who loved him in an easy-going upbringing, and it makes him the least dysfunctional of superheroes in so many ways,” Gunn told ComicBook.com. “And Supergirl, especially the DCU Supergirl, she’s kind of a mess. I mean, she’s had real issues growing up.”

The recent cameo supports this narrative direction.

The highly anticipated film is based on the comic series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The story follows Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, played by Alcock, as she teams up with a young alien girl, played by Eve Ridley, who is seeking revenge for her father’s murder.

Supergirl has officially wrapped filming, as confirmed by James Gunn in an Instagram Thread.

A fan asked, “James, I wanna hear from you with this news just to confirm — has Supergirl really wrapped filming?”

Gunn replied, “Yes it has.”

Directed by Craig Gillespie, Supergirl is set to hit theatres on June 26, 2026.
