American filmmaker and co-head of DC Studios, James Gunn, has seen Superman make more than $22 million at the box office on its first day, and the director is already eyeing the possibility of at least two TV spinoffs.

Superman, which launches the DC Universe, was released on Friday, June 11, and received a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Director Gunn is looking ahead to TV spinoffs of Superman characters. The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday night that the expected character spinoffs include Edi Gathegi‘s Mister Terrific and Skyler Gisondo‘s Jimmy Olsen from the new superhero movie.

In addition, Gunn has already announced season two of Peacemaker, produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, which is set to stream on August 21.

Moreover, his series Lanterns, starring Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, is set to premiere sometime in 2026.

Giving an update on Paradise Lost in a recent Q&A with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn said that it’s progressing.

“It’s slow-moving, but it’s moving,” he said.

DC co-heads Gunn and Peter Safran have previously revealed their plans to relaunch the DC Universe.

Starting with Superman, the DCU will include two live-action films and one animated film per year, along with two live-action and two animated TV series per year.
