The highly anticipated iteration of Superman from James Gunn is finally out, and it seems to be winning hearts.
“When Superman gets drawn into conflicts at home and abroad, his actions are questioned, giving tech billionaire Lex Luthor the opportunity to get the Man of Steel out of the way for good. Will intrepid reporter Lois Lane and Superman's four-legged companion, Krypto, be able to help him before it's too late?,” reads the synopsis of the superhero flick.
What are audiences saying?
One user critiqued the serious tone taken by previous adaptations, writing on Rotten Tomatoes, “What Superman should always have been, an excellent movie about a more human Superman, with more feelings and internal conflict, A Superman not as imposing as his previous version, but that doesn't matter, why do we want an invincible Superman? The movie would be over in 5 seconds, a more colorful movie full of action and some funny moments. This Superman is possibly the best version that has ever been in theaters, 100% recommended, James Gunn did it again, an excellent movie.”
It seems comic book fans are elated as another gushed, “The movie encapsulates the feeling of comic books and superheroes cartoons, instead of bringing superheroes to our world, it puts us in theirs. The action is dynamic and fun, the humour well placed and well-dosed, and there are great character moments.”
However, not everyone is in agreement, as one viewer remarked, “There was no genuine feeling in the movie. The dialogue was bland. Side characters were amazing. Guy Gardner and Mr Terrific were fun to watch. Superman was this whiny toddler the whole time and lex was very predictable and non villainy he was just another angry toddler. There were times where I thought there was going to be a meaningful scene or even heartfelt but no. (Superman dialogue with papa Kent, or child raising the Superman flag) I am utterly disappointed. No emotion. I had high hopes for James Gunn. He did amazing with the guardians trilogy, he took the same route with Superman and it unfortunately did not work. 4/10 Superman 3 is a masterpiece compared to this.”
Superman is currently playing in theaters.
