Superman has emerged as the first movie under DC Studios co-led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, soaring to a massive $21M+ in overall previews.
According to Deadline, the figure includes $2.8 million from Amazon Prime screenings on Tuesday night, July 8, and monies from different showtimes.
The haul marks the best preview performance of the year for the James Gunn-directed movie, surpassing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($17.5M), Lilo & Stitch ($14.5M) and Captain America: Brave New World ($12M).
While Warner’s initial hopes were for a $100M 3-day start, and tracking suggested $115M-$130M, Superman is poised to exceed these expectations.
Other promising benchmarks also exhibit the success of highly-anticipated sci-fi film. The action movie has also outpaced Zack Snyder’s 2013 Man of Steel with its $9M in previews.
The movie is also close to topping Matt Reeves’ The Batman at $21.6M. However, it still falls short of 2016’s Batman v. Superman, which holds the record for the best Superman related preview with $27.7M.
RelishMix, social media analytics firm, also observed positive word of mouth ahead of the film's debut.
They noted the impressive social media universe with $953.8 million which is 20% higher for any superhero movie prior to its release.
Superman is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
In the new Superman movie, the character of Superman/Clark Kent is played by David Corenswet.
