Michael Shannon has revealed the reason behind his reluctance to reprise the General Zod role for The Flash in a recent interview.
While talking to The Independent, the American actor explained that his hesitation stemmed from the fall out of Zack Snyder.
Man of Steel director Snyder “had kind of been excommunicated from the whole Warner Brothers empire” after quitting sequel of Justice League, Shannon told.
The 50-year-old actor expressed his emotions: “That left this sour taste in my mouth. I did not like the way they treated Snyder at all.”
As Snyder stepped away from the post-production of Justice League after the death of his daughter, Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon took the helm.
The movie was rewrote and reshot under the aegis of Whedon, much to the chagrin of DC fans.
However, Whedon’s Justice League failed to impress critics and audiences, who filed the petition calling for Warner Bros to release Snyder’s original cut.
Eventually, the director’s four-hour version was released in 2021.
Despite Shannon’s hesitancy to appear in The Flash, the actor reprised the role of General Zod because “he liked director Andy Muschietti.”
Starring Ezra Miller as a lead actor, the DC film was released in 2023.
A Moon for the Misbegotten play stars Michael Shannon as James Tyrone Jr, currently playing at the Almeida Theatre in London's West End.
