Michael Scott and Dwight Shrute, portrayed by Steve Carell and Rainn Wilson respectively made one of the most iconic duos in the most-streamed comedy series The Office, and now the former is opening up about a major shift.
During season seven of the show which carried on for a total of nine seasons, the central character from the show, Michael marked his departure, due to the Crazy, Stupid, Love actor wanting to pursue other projects.
In a recent episode of The Good Guys podcast, Rainn admitted to hosts Josh Peck and Ben Soffer, that the exit somewhat negatively affected the series.
"It was a little bit chaotic of trying to figure out the tone of the show," he stated, of how things were after the comedian’s removal from the sitcom.
"Who's the lead? And, how are we telling these stories without the comic engine of the show, which is Michael Scott, and without one of the greatest comic actors in American history at the center of our show?" Rainn continued explaining.
The 59-year-old revealed that Steve’s decision to quit the show was not an unpredictable one, since the Golden Globe award-winner was a successful movie star, who they knew would inevitably leave.
The NBC comedy show’s viewership saw a dip after the central character’s farewell, as well as critics and fans expressing their disapproval over the move.
