Keanu Reeves has officially been dubbed Hollywood’s real-life angel, at least in the eyes of Aziz Ansari.
The 61-year-old actor was Ansari’s first choice to play a guardian angel in his new comedy-action movie Good Fortune, which sees an ethereal hero teaching a struggling man that money isn’t everything.
“He has a reputation of being such a sweet, kind of almost angelic figure,” Aziz told The Hollywood Reporter.
“He also has this wisdom. If someone told you, ‘Keanu’s like 3,000 years old,’ you’d be like, ‘That kind of tracks.’ He’s also so funny in this film.
I looked at his older work, stuff like Bill & Ted and Parenthood, and took little pieces to construct this character — and he just knocks it out of the park.”
The 42-year-old actor, making his directorial debut, said he leaned on some Hollywood heavyweights for guidance.
“Spike Jonze recommended Carter Burwell for music, and Steven Soderbergh gave me early feedback that really brightened my heart,” he explained.
Moreover, he also heaped praise on long-time collaborator Seth Rogen.
“He’s not just acting; he was always thinking about the film as a whole and how we could make it better. Any of his guidance I took to heart.”
Joining the star-studded cast are Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh, making Good Fortune a heavenly mix of comedy, action, and big-name charm.
